The Hague, November 22, 2023. On November 21 and 22, the 35th Annual Meeting of the Council of Governors of the Common Fund for Commodities met in The Hague.
This was the appropriate space for Cuba, taking into account the complex productive economic scenario in the world and the existing food crisis, to recognize the work of the CFC in supporting important projects that contribute to the generation of jobs, the development of sustainable agriculture and food security in developing countries.
Cuba reiterated its commitment to the objectives and work carried out by the Fund and praises the progress to implement projects that contribute to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda, such as confronting Climate Change, the empowerment of women and food sovereignty.
Once again, the Cuban ambassador, Anet Pino Rivero, condemned the application of unilateral coercive economic measures, incompatible with international law and the Charter of the United Nations that prevent the full realization of the right to development, as well as compliance with the 2030 Agenda. She exposed the effects of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba for more than 6 decades.
Cuba advocated for multilateralism and a fair and sustainable economic order in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and considered that the Common Fund for Commodities should receive greater priority and recognition in the United Nations system, as an instrument to confront poverty and inequality.
