Cuba Participates in the First 2025 G77 and China Ambassadorial-Level Meeting

This Thursday was held, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the first Ambassadorial-level meeting of the G77 and China corresponding to 2025, under Iraq’s chairmanship.

Ambassador Mr. Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, pointed out the need to continue consolidating the unity, influence and leadership of the Group in 2025, a year that will not escape the challenges for developing countries. He stressed the importance of concerted action by the Group, in view of the multiple and relevant multilateral processes that will take place in 2025, particularly, the negotiations on the outcome document of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development; the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20); the intergovernmental process to set up the mandate and modalities for the establishment and operation of the International Independent Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance; the outcome document of the World Social Summit and the COP 30 on climate change.

He also emphasized the importance of following up on the agreements of the Summit on Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Havana in September 2023, in particular, the measures to be taken in order to meet the needs of developing countries in these areas.'

Mr. Soberón Guzmán reiterated Cuba’s commitment to the objectives and founding principles of the G-77 and China, and emphasized that the island will continue to rely on the strength of the group as a serious and valid interlocutor in the concert of nations.
