The channel was presented within the framework of the 'First TRT Broadcasting Summit for Spanish-Speaking Countries', an event held in Istanbul with the aim of strengthening collaboration in the creation of content and news not with Spanish-speaking countries.
TRT Spanish, the new digital news platform of Türkiye Radio and Television (TRT),
under the slogan "Where People Matter," will tell stories that resonate in Türkiye, Latin America and Spain, bridging cultures and offering an independent view.
TRT continues to expand its global reach and has launched its new digital news platform. The new news platform is billed as an invitation from Türkiye to see the world from a different angle and understand the facts through diverse storytelling.
"We hope that TRT Español will be beneficial for us and Spanish-speaking countries," said Türkiye Communications Director Fahrettin Altun during the launch event.
Altun detailed that the platform is part of Türkiye's vision to promote rights and justice in as many languages as possible and promised that Turkish media "will continue to fight against oppression and give voice to those who are oppressed".
For his part, TRT General Director Mehmet Zahid Sobaci stressed that TRT Spanish marks "the beginning of a new era" for ties between Spanish-speaking countries and Türkiye. "From Spain to Latin America, Türkiye is consolidating its relations in the region," he stressed.
The launching ceremony, which took place during the morning of Friday, April 26, was attended by representatives of embassies, media from 20 Spanish-speaking countries and prominent people from the field of Türkiye culture.
At the end of the ceremony, representatives from 20 Spanish-speaking countries took the stage and witnessed the exact moment of the official launch of the TRT Español digital news platform, a new voice in the Spanish-speaking world that focuses on what unites us and where people's stories are what matter.
Cuba was represented by Dr. Alejandro F. Díaz Palacios. Ambassador of Cuba in Türkiye, Jorge Cruz, General Director of Canal Caribe, and journalist Deisy Gómez Esperón, who held a meeting with the General Director of TRT, Mehmet Zahid Sobaci, during the Gala Dinner of the event, where they exchanged on the possibilities of collaboration between TRT and ICRT, as well as the willingness to work together to comply with the Cooperation Agreement between the two institutions, signed during the official visit of the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to Türkiye in November 2022.
