Riyadh, July 4th - The second edition of the Ibero-American Film Festival in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was inaugurated on July 3rd, 2023.
This cultural activity was organized by the Embassy of Mexico in Riyadh and the Mexican film company Cinepolis, which has several branches throughout the Gulf.
This event takes place simultaneously in Riyadh, the capital of the Arab country, and in Jeddah, one of the most important cities in the Kingdom and headquarters of the Mexican company.
During the opening ceremony the Ambassador of Mexico, Mr. Anibal Gomez Toledo, delivered speech where he thanked all the parties that made possible to carry out the festival and stressed that this event is an opportunity to promote the culture of the participating nations.
In this event, which will run until July 8th, will screen a film from each participating country: Mexico, Cuba, Spain, Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina and India, as guest nation.
The respective presentations of the films were attended by members of the accredited Diplomatic Corps, representatives of Cinepolis and the public in general.
Cuba is represented in this cultural event by the film "Contigo Pan y Cebolla", a comedy of the year 2014, which was directed by Juan Carlos Cremata and played by renowned actors, such as Alina Rodriguez, Enrique Molina, Alicia Bustamante, Osvaldo Doimeadios.
The film was produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and is a tribute to the Hector Quintero National Theatre Award, author of the homonymous work, in which the film is based, who unfortunately died in 2011.
The screening of this film is part of the activities to be carried out by the Cuban Embassy, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks, on July 26th, National Rebellion Day. (EmbaCuba Arabia Saudita)
