New York, December 13th, 2023.- The Deputy Minister of Communications of Cuba, Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández, leads the delegation of the Greater Antilles to the sixth substantive session of the Open-Ended Working Group (GTCA) on the security and use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) 2021-2025, which takes place at the United Nations headquarters, in this city.
During the debate on existing and potential threats, Rodríguez Hernández said that, to counteract threats to security and the use of ICT, it is necessary to achieve a global commitment for its use for exclusively peaceful purposes, for the benefit of cooperation and development. of the peoples.
He added that the prohibition of the use of ICT as a pretext for the unleashing of war, the threat or use of force and the militarization of cyberspace is also needed;
The Cuban Deputy Minister appealed for the elimination of the huge technological gap and the obstacles imposed on developing countries to invest in the security of their ICT infrastructures, including unilateral coercive measures, which limit their capabilities to confront existing and potential threats.
The Cuban delegation is also composed of Pablo Domínguez Vázquez, director of Cybersecurity of the Ministry of Communications.
