Cuba participates in a virtual panel on Africa Day

Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica participates in a virtual panel on Africa Day.

Kingston, Jamaica, 25 May 2021. The Cuban ambassador to this capital joined the virtual panel entitled “Building Africa-Caribbean Solidarity in the Age of Global Pandemics”, organized by the PJ Patterson Centre for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy, on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the African Union and Africa Day.

In her remarks, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the role of the African continent in building the Cuban people´s identity; as well as the cooperation maintained by the Greatest Island in the Antilles and African nations for several decades. In this regard, she specified that thousands of Cuban workers currently render their services in the African territory, emphasizing the work carried out by Cuban health professionals in the fight against Covid-19.

Along with former Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Percival James Patterson, the panel was made up by Sir Hilary Beckless, vice chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI); Professor Verene Shepher, director of the Institute for Reparations Research at the University of the West Indies; Sir George Alleyne, former Director of the Pan American Health Organization; and H.E Chief Olosegun Obasanjo, former President of the Republic of Nigeria.

All panel members praised the historical, cultural, ethical and experiential bonds that unite the Caribbean countries with the African continent.
