Cuba took a cultural sample to the 2024 Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge, a distinguished international culinary competition, held at the Union Station headquarters in Washington D.C.
Represented by traditional Cuban beverages and gastronomic dishes, as well as promotional posters of our tourist destinations, the Cuban stand received hundreds of visitors who came to taste the proposals. Guests enjoyed the famous mojito and also received a detailed explanation from the Cuban delegation on the cultural heritage of the largest of the Antilles.
The event, which was attended by representatives of 23 embassies, offers the opportunity to share the richness and cultural diversity of our country with the public, said Alejandro García del Toro, deputy chief of the Cuban diplomatic mission in the U.S. capital.
The Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge is a gathering of chefs from embassies accredited in Washington D.C., who annually showcase the unique flavors of their countries of origin in a friendly culinary competition. This year, first place for the Judge's Award went to Chef Jovana Urriola of the Embassy of the Republic of Panama with her authentic "Panamanian Style Afro-Caribbean Chicken Tamale Dumplings."
Cuba's participation in the event is part of the exchanges between Cuban cultural institutions and Events DC.
