March 5th Olympia. Greece. An art exhibition was held on the occasion of "The route of Olympic truce 2020" at the Olympic Exhibition and Conferences Centre, organized by the Olympic Federation. The president, Sofia Hintziou Kontogianni, and Vice President Annita Patsouraki, shared at the opening of the exhibition with the counselor of the Cuban Embassy José Oriol Marrero Martinez, author of two of the photos present in this important art exhibition. Both photos are part of the photographic exhibition "José Martí: with Greece in the Heart", of the counselor himself, and are related to the references of Martí, National Hero of Cuba, to the Olympic Games of antiquity.
The so-called Route of the Olympic Truce recalls the 50-kilometre route that participants in the ancient Olympics walked from Ilida to Olympia, to participate in the games, after stopping the wars, and leaving their weapons in Armátova, an old and historic site very close to Ilida, which today is submerged under the waters of Lake Pneus.
While the exhibition took place, on the very nearby track of the olympic stadium of antiquity, several young people defied the low temperatures preparing the traditional Olympic torch ceremony, which will soon depart from that site, towards the 32nd Olympics Tokío 2020.
It was a cultural action of great importance, where Cuba had the honor of being the only country, besides Greece, to be represented in the exhibition, which began in a night in the first quarter of the 21st century, in the village of Olympia, next to the most important sanctuary to the god Zeus, in the valley of the Alpheus River that today as in 776 BC - by the way, quoted in his Works by Martí, responds to the very essence of those days of the distant 8th century BC: peace!
Olympia is located in the Peloponnese, about 400 kms south west of Athens, on the side of the Ionian Sea.
