Veria, Greece 9/13/21 The Cuban ambassador to Greece Zelmys Domínguez Cortina, and the counselor of the embassy José Oriol Marrero Martinez, held fruitful exchanges with official authorities in the Imathia region with the vice governor of the region Konstantinos Kalaitzidis. In addition, they had another meeting with the mayor of the city of Veria, Konstantinos Vorgiazidis with whom it was agreed to show soon in Veria, at his request, the photographic exhibition "José Martí: with Greece in the heart" and also to launch the book soon, José Martí and “the Greek”. The mayor of Veria was present and intervened two years ago at the opening of the exhibition "With Cuba in the heart", in the village of Trílofos, belonging to this municipality.
A wide, open and substantial press conference was also held with representatives of numerous Veria newspapers, radio and television stations, where lawyers, doctors, trade unionists, solidarity friends, among other social sectors, were also present. Also was held another meeting with representatives of trade union associations, association of philologists, association of primary educators among others.
The visit had at all times media coverage from the printed, digital, radio and television press. In addition to the press conference, two more interviews were conducted with the ambassador, which were published in the local media.
The visit and its different activities were widely publicized.
In these meetings, were discussed about Cuba's battle against Covid-19 and the experiences accumulated in the generation, development and production of vaccines were addressed; the experiences of the Cuban educational system; the fight against the criminal blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government and the effects of the blockade on the Cuban family; the battle that the country is developing on all fronts to get ahead in this difficult situation, preserving the historical conquests achieved, first of all national sovereignty and independence as a Nation.
VERIA (BEREA or BEROEA). Veria is an ancient and important Greek polis, capital of the peripheral unit of Emacia (Imathia), located on the periphery of Central Macedonia. It has one 35 thousand inhabitants. In this municipality is located the town of Vergina, former polis of Egas, depository of a relevant archaeological site of the first world order, in which the Great Tomb stands out, and inside the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Egas, where it was discovered the tomb of King Philip II of Macedonia, also father of Alexander the Great. As part of the cultural exchange, the Cuban diplomats visited the city of Vergina and the Archaeological Museum of Veria, accompanied by the organizers of the visit.
