The staff of the Embassy of Cuba, led by the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez, actively participated in the celebration of World Folklore Day 2018, which had as its headquarters the external areas of the National Theater of Ghana.
In his words to the attendees, the Cuban Ambassador made reference to the historical and cultural ties that unite Cuba with Africa, and Ghana in particular, reinforced by the presence of more than three thousand young Ghanaians who studied different specialties in the Greater Antillean. The Cuban diplomat thanked the invitation received from the National Folklore Board of Ghana.
Cuba was represented at that Multinational and Multicultural Event through a Stand, in which were shown: elements of the geography and history of Cuba; places of tourist destination, especially beaches and recreational centers; cultural products such as CD's and DV's of the broad spectrum of Cuban music; and high demand items such as Havana Club Rum and cigars. Stand visitors also received information about Cuban cultural news, and especially about the meaning and interconnection between national symbols and attributes. Mr. Tirso dos Santos, Head of the UNESCO Office in Ghana, was among those who were interested in the exhibitions.
Cuban cuisine was present in the exhibition area of the Embassy of Cuba, thanks to the participation of a representation of the Recreational Center T-Havana Park, an entity managed by two Cuban residents in Ghana, and who have made it a reference point of the culinary and musical variety of Cuba. In that Center, many Ghanaians have learned to dance the contagious Cuban rhythms, especially the Casino.
As part of the presentation of Cuba, the members of the Embassy collective improvised a dance exhibition with the emblematic song Me dicen Cuba by the famous trumpeter Alexander Abreu, leader of the Havana d’Primera Havana group. At the request of the attendees, the Embassy group exchanged dance steps with those attending the festive activity, again with the rhythm of Havana d’Primera.
Along with Cuba, they presented elements of their folklore, a group of Embassies, among them: Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Germany and Poland. Also institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations of Ghana and the others countries, were represented in the National Theater.
Mrs. Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante, Acting Director of the National Folklore Bureau of Ghana, who also enjoyed the Cuban music, thanked our presence in the Event and said the interest for continuing the cooperation with the Cuban Embassy in the cultural sphere.
