Cuba promotes, on behalf of a group of countries, the recognition of the human right to International Solidarity.

Geneva, 18 September 2025. Cuba today delivered a statement to the Human Rights Council on behalf of 68 countries advocating for the formal recognition of international solidarity as a human right.

In his statement, Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson stressed that international solidarity is an essential component for the implementation of the right to development and the full enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights.

He called on the Human Rights Council to adopt a Declaration on the Right to International Solidarity and on the formal recognition in 2026 by the United Nations General Assembly of the human right to international solidarity.

This powerful message from an important group of countries from different regions of the world comes in a context of increasing attacks by the United States government against multilateralism and international cooperation, including its campaign to discredit the cooperation that Cuba offers to multiple nations in the field of health.
