Cuba promotes the implementation of the Pact for the Future at the United Nations, Advocating Concrete Actions for Sustainable Development

The first informal interactive dialogue on the implementation of the Pact of the Future was held on Wednesday at the United Nations headquarters in New York, with the participation of António Guterres, UN Secretary-General.

Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, who spoke at the dialogue, supported Venezuela's statements on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. He highlighted the significant negotiating efforts that led to the adoption of the Pact for the Future and the need for its implementation to help accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The Cuban diplomat reiterated our country's proposal for a 5-point plan to ensure the achievement of the Compact's objectives, which include: Advancing discussions on the SDG stimulus, as financing is an indispensable element for the effective implementation of the Pact; the presentation of the Secretary-General's report on the impact of military spending on sustainable development; the importance of strengthening the UN's capacities to reduce the digital divide and support governments in harnessing science and technology for development; greater cooperation with multilateral development banks, credit rating agencies and international financial institutions; the need to establish multilateral governance of artificial intelligence and the creation of a global fund to promote these technologies, ensuring the equitable participation of developing countries.

He concluded by reiterating Cuba's commitment to actively participate in the implementation of the Pact of the Future, with the aim of achieving a real and significant impact on sustainable development at the global level.
