Cuba promotes teacher training to integrate the educational game "African Diaspora" in the classroom

Paris, March 25, 2026. – More than 70 schools and community projects in Havana and Artemisa participated in a training workshop aimed at incorporating the educational game "African Diaspora" into the classroom, an initiative promoted by UNESCO to strengthen more inclusive and rigorous teaching of the history of Africa and its diaspora.

The training meeting made it possible to train teachers and educational actors in the pedagogical use of this tool, conceived to foster collaborative learning, critical thinking and the recognition of cultural diversity. The game invites students to discover characters, traditions and historical episodes of Africa and the Caribbean through participatory and innovative dynamics.

"African Diaspora" is the result of the joint work of artists, researchers, and teachers from Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, within the framework of the General History of Africa Program, promoted by UNESCO since 1964, with the objective of promoting a more complete and fair vision of African history.

The initiative continues a process that began in 2025, when the game was presented in Havana and began its progressive introduction in educational centers in the country, accompanied by pedagogical validation actions and teacher training to facilitate its implementation in classrooms and community spaces.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO, Dulce María Buergo Rodríguez; the Director of History of the Ministry of Education of Cuba, Miriam Egea; and the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, Anne Lemaistre.

This initiative reinforces the commitment of Cuba and UNESCO to a transformative, inclusive education based on historical knowledge, which contributes to the formation of critical citizens, aware of cultural diversity and the African legacy in Caribbean identity.
