Suva, September 26. The Cuban Ambassador to Fiji, Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago, ratified the permanent solidarity and willingness to expand cooperation with Palau and the Marshall Islands, on the occasion to celebrate this September 26 and 27, respectively, the fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with both countries.

When addressing the Ambassadors of those States in Suva, the highest rank diplomatic representative of the Caribbean Island here called the event as a “milestone” and highlighted its “relevant significance” in the development of Cuba's ties with the Pacific Islands. He recalled with deep emotion the words expressed five years ago by the then President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, when presiding over the signing ceremonies of the agreements alongside the Palauan President Thomas Remengesau and the then Marshallese Head of State Cristopher Loeak, in the context of his participation in the 70 period of sessions of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

The participants highlighted the progress made in the political dialogue, mainly in multilateral headquarters, as well as the existing potential to strengthen cooperation on issues of common interest, taking into account the challenges faced by the three nations, given their status as Small Island Developing States.
