During the United Nations General Assembly's thematic dialogue entitled "Promoting Dialogue Among Civilizations, Strengthening Global Solidarity and Cooperation," Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to promoting peace, tolerance, and cooperation among peoples.
Soberón Guzmán expressed concern about the rise of intolerance, hate speech, and unilateral coercive measures, all of which threaten peaceful coexistence and international law. He emphasized that "there can be neither development nor social justice without respect for the legitimate differences between cultures and nations."
The ambassador firmly rejected the stigmatization of religions and cultures as threats to humanity and the imposition of cultural hierarchies. "It is unacceptable to attempt to weigh the value of some cultures over others or to ignore the rich cultural diversity of peoples," he said.
He also denounced the imposition of unilateral coercive measures as a violation of international law and an obstacle to a culture of peace.
In his speech, the Cuban representative reaffirmed Cuba's vocation of peace and solidarity, based on humanist principles and selfless cooperation with the peoples of the South. Despite the challenges posed by the intensification of the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade and unjust inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, the Caribbean nation has remained committed to international cooperation.
The Cuban diplomat strongly rejected the U.S. government's attacks on Cuba's medical cooperation programs, calling them a "ferocious and immoral attack." He emphasized that these programs adhere strictly to the principles of South-South cooperation and the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) through intergovernmental agreements that respect the sovereignty of recipient countries.
He concluded by reaffirming that despite threats and pressures, Cuba will continue to promote solidarity, cooperation, and global justice.
