This Wednesday, in the framework of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Osmayda Hernández Beleño, member of the National Secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), participated in an interactive dialogue on "Environmental conservation, protection and rehabilitation."
In her speech, she highlighted Cuba's commitment to sustainability and social equity, emphasizing that environmental policies and programs in our country are based on an integrated vision of social justice and equity, with legislative support that guarantees the country's sustainable development.
He also emphasized that the largest of the Antilles has demonstrated its international commitment by signing major agreements such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. In addition, the National Plan to Confront Climate Change, known as Tarea Vida (Life Task), has been adapted to include greater participation of scientists and communities in the search for solutions.
He also announced that the National Environmental Strategy 2021-2025 will make it possible to measure progress in this area through indicators such as ecological footprint, environmental quality and climate resilience. The approval of the Law on the System of Natural Resources and the Environment reflects Cuba's political will to take care of the environment.
The representative of Cuba highlighted national efforts to integrate gender equality into environmental policies, recognizing the fundamental role of women in environmental protection and risk management.
In that regard, she emphasized that the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030 aligned its objectives with a local vision, promoting inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements that guarantee a dignified and safe life for all women and their families.
