Cuba reaffirms its commitment to international humanitarian law

Geneva, April 11, 2026.—Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, held a meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric. Both sides noted the smooth nature of bilateral exchanges and the strong state of existing relations.

During the dialogue, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Cuba’s firm commitment to the defense and promotion of international humanitarian law, underscoring the importance of respecting it in today’s complex international landscape. In this context, they also discussed prospects for continuing to strengthen communication and joint efforts.

Likewise, the importance of deepening cooperation was highlighted, taking into account the challenges facing the archipelago, particularly those arising from the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, as well as the energy blockade imposed by the United States government. It was noted that these factors have a direct impact on the country’s development and its capabilities.

The exchange demonstrated a shared commitment to advancing a collaborative agenda based on humanitarian principles, mutual respect, and adherence to international law, thereby strengthening ties between Cuba and the ICRC in areas of common interest.
