PRESS RELEASE
Geneva, June 25, 2019 "Cuba reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, and confirms to the High Commissioner the support for the mandate of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the firm will to continue cooperating in the" titanic "task lies ahead".
This statement was made by Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba in the General Debate of Item 2: "Oral update of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights”.
At another point in his speech, Pedroso Cuesta urged the High Commissioner to continue promoting respect, objectivity, inclusive dialogue and cooperation, which both the Council and the United Nations human rights machinery are lacking in general.
We are convinced - he said - of the role of her leadership in the promotion and protection of all human rights for all, and that his extensive experience will be essential to prevent politicization and to make the principles of objectivity, non-selectivity and impartiality prevail in the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
"It is necessary to reiterate that item 2 of the Council's agenda should be used to discuss the work done by the High Commissioner and her Office, and not to selectively prosecute some States and advance objectives unrelated to the work of the Council," concluded the official.
