Cuba reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people at the United Nations

New York, May 15, 2026 – The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, reiterated Cuba’s unwavering and historic solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just cause during the commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the Nakba.

In his speech, the Cuban diplomat recalled that the Nakba is a historic tragedy whose consequences continue to affect the Palestinian people after decades of occupation, forced displacement, destruction of communities, and the denial of their inalienable right to self-determination.

Ambassador Soberón denounced genocide, apartheid, and collective punishment against the Palestinian people, as well as the use of starvation as a weapon and attacks against civilians and essential infrastructure in the occupied Palestinian territories. He also condemned the political, diplomatic, military, and financial support provided by the United States to the occupying power.

Cuba rejects the illegal activities of Israeli settlements, stating that they violate international law, undermine the two-state solution, and endanger the feasibility of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and including the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

The Permanent Representative reaffirmed that a lasting and just peace in the Middle East will only be possible through full respect for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and reiterated Cuba’s support for the admission of Palestine as a full member state of the United Nations.

In closing, Ambassador Soberón reiterated that Cuba honors the resistance and heroism of the Palestinian people and will maintain its unwavering support for their right to live in peace and build their own future with dignity and sovereignty.
