Cuba Reaffirms at the United Nations its Commitment to the Human Rights of Afro-descendant Women and Girls

During the thematic debate on the human rights of Afro-descendant women and girls, held this Tuesday in the framework of the Fourth session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent in New York, the Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba, Daylenis Moreno Guerra, highlighted the actions and measures adopted by the country in favor of the rights of Afro-descendant women and girls.

In this regard, she referred to the implementation of the National Program "Color Cubano", an initiative of the Cuban State that ensures a gender perspective and includes the confrontation of the vestiges of this phenomenon that can affect black and mulatto women. She emphasized the articulation of this program with the Program for the Advancement of Women and with projects and initiatives of academic institutions, government institutions, territorial governments, local development projects, networks and civil society organizations.

She also highlighted the institutional progress made, such as the creation of the Social Observatory "Color Cubano" and the development of protocols for the treatment of complaints and denunciations of racism, implemented by entities such as the Ministry of the Interior, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, and the Supreme Court of the Nation.

In turn, she recognized the positive impact of initiatives such as the Cuban events for the International Day of Afro-Latin American, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women, held in several provinces of the country, organized by Articulación Afrofeminista, which is composed of more than 70 groups and whose common goal is the fight against racism.

In her speech, the Cuban diplomat welcomed the adoption of Resolution 78/323, which established the "International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent".

In conclusion, she reiterated Cuba's commitment to the principles contained in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, noting that these documents "remain fully valid". She stressed that these documents continue to be our main reference on these issues, which are of the highest priority for Cuba and for humanity.
