Cuba to receive solidarity aid from Jamaica for fire relief

The Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica and the Embassy of Cuba in that nation sent a first shipment of supplies to deal with the fire in the industrial zone of the city of Matanzas.

Kingston, 8 August 2022 (Prensa Latina). The Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica and the Embassy of Cuba in that nation sent a first shipment of supplies to deal with the fire in the industrial zone of the city of Matanzas.

The aid consisted of more than 100 kilograms of medical supplies and medicines, and departed from Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

The ambassador of the largest of the Antilles in Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones, told Prensa Latina that the aid consists of syringes, gauze, antibiotics, creams for burns, IV bags and gloves, among other materials.

The Central Unit for Medical Collaboration, the Caribbean & Latin Travel agency and the Aviatsa airline were involved in the operation to take them to Cuba.

On the afternoon of Friday 5 August, lightning struck and set fire to the first fuel tank in the industrial zone of the city of Matanzas, and in the early hours of the following morning the flames reached a second tank.
