Cuba reiterates commitment to cooperation with Caribbean nations

Kingston, 18 May 2023. The Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, intervened at the XI United Kingdom-Caribbean Forum, which took place in this city on Thursday 18 May and was attended by Foreign Ministers and senior diplomatic representatives of the United Kingdom, countries members of CARICOM, as well as Cuba and the Dominican Republic as observers.

In her speech during the event under the heading "Cooperation in health and education", the Cuban Deputy Minister ratified Cuba's firm commitment to continue and expand the humanist and solidarity work of the Cuban Revolution with the Caribbean, despite the complex economic situation currently facing the island as a result of the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US.

The Caribbean countries acknowledged Cuba's permanent support in various spheres, particularly in the education and health sectors, and the significant contribution in human resources, indispensable for their development, while denouncing the harmful effects of the genocidal blockade against the Cuban people and bilateral cooperation and calling for its immediate end.

The XI Forum, the first to be held in person since 2016, addressed issues of regional interest in the post-pandemic recovery period, such as investment and trade, security, climate change and education.
