New York, July 28th, 2023.- First deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and permanent representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, reiterated, last Thursday, July 27th, his country strong rejection to the Israeli military aggression and occupation of the Palestinian territory.
During his remarks at the Security Council´s debate on the situation of the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Peñalver Portal also condemned Israel's military operation in the Jenin Refugee Camp, which has resulted in numerous deaths and more than fifty civilians wounded, a fact he considered as a serious threat to stability and peace in the Middle East.
The Cuban diplomat alerted that double standards, selectivity and political manipulation, which undermine the cause of international peace and security, must cease.
Peñalver Portal referred, likewise that it´s time to end to Israel's impunity, in which the United States has historically been complicit by repeatedly obstructing Security Council action and maintaining unilateral decisions in violation of the UN Charter, the International Law and the relevant Security Council resolutions.
In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Cuba demanded the immediate and unconditional end to the arbitrary and illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against sovereign nations in the Middle East.
