New York, April 26th, 2023.- Cuba called, once again, for an urgent and broad reform of the United Nations Security Council in order to have a more representative, democratic and transparent body as it is demanded by the international community.
During his remarks at the debate on the use of veto at the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador and deputy permanent representative, Yuri Gala Lopez, recalled the considerations issued by the Cuban delegation during the adoption of the resolution of 2022 which gave origin to the present debate.
In that regard, Gala Lopez insisted that the issue of the veto must not be assessed separately from the rest of the issues under the mandate of the intergovernmental negotiation group on the reform of the Security Council. He later stated that the five key issues identified with said reform, among them the use of veto, are closely linked.
