New York, April 8, 2024.- Israel continues to massacre the Palestinian population with total impunity, violating the Charter of the United Nations, the International Law, the International Humanitarian Law and numerous United Nations resolutions, as it has the complicity and the support of the United States.
This was denounced, today, by Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, at the plenary meeting of the General Assembly on the use of the veto in the Security Council under the theme “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.”
Soberón Guzmán noted that the US government has prevented any attempt by the Security Council to impose an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, which is most urgently required; and warned that the genocide will continue as long as the United States continues to support and protect Israel by supplying it with weapons and military aid.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed that a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is immediately needed, based on the creation of two States, which allows the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and to have an independent and independent State. sovereign within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital and that also guarantees the right of return for refugees.
He reiterated the call of the Greater Antilles to convene a Peace Conference under the auspices of the UN, which would allow the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to be preserved.
The Permanent Representative also supported the entry of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, a decision that, as he explained, could no longer be postponed.
“We reaffirm Cuba's invariable solidarity with the Palestinian cause; as well as our desire for peace and stability for the entire Middle East region. The sister Arab nations can count on Cuba's unrestricted support for this noble endeavor,” concluded the Cuban diplomat.
