Cuba reiterates at the United Nations commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

New York, July 20th, 2023.- The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning of Cuba, Alejandro Gil Fernández, reiterated, this week, the commitment of the Greater Antilles to the 2030 Agenda, during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

During his speech, at the opening session of this forum, the Vice Prime Minister said that, despite the difficulties imposed by a multidimensional crisis at a global level and the unprecedented intensification of the blockade, Cuba continues to advance in the construction of a sovereign society. , independent, socialist, democratic, prosperous and sustainable.

Framed within these purposes, he explained that in Cuba a set of transformations and measures have been incorporated that create the conditions to advance with greater dynamism in the recovery, among which stand out: the promotion of the Macroeconomic Stabilization Program, the comprehensive transformation of the company socialist state system, the diversification and complementarity of new economic actors and the encouragement of foreign investment, among others.

He also highlighted that public policies continue to be oriented towards maintaining and achieving important social achievements, under the principle of “leaving no one behind.”

“We will continue along the path of sustainable development, strengthening planning and coordination at different levels of government, promoting innovation, scientific research and the construction of multi-stakeholder alliances, as essential tools for recovery and progress,” he concluded.
