Cuba rejects hostile US sanctions against defense minister

Havana, January 3, 2020. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez rejected this Friday the US sanctions adopted against the island's Defense Minister, which he described as threatening and without practical effects.

'I strongly reject #US State Department decision to bar Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces of #Cuba from entering the #US. This threatening and slanderous step has no practical effect. I reiterate our unwavering solidarity with #Venezuela#CubaVsBlockade,' Rodriguez tweeted.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that the decision is linked to Cuba's support for the Venezuelan government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Washington banned General Leopoldo Cintra Frias from entering US territory, a measure also adopted against his family members.

This is the latest in an escalation of decisions and prohibitions aimed at hindering the development plans of the Cuban government and plunging the Cuban people into despair, such as those intended to tighten the economic, financial and commercial blockade.

Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias has had a long service career. He participated and directed internationalist combative actions in Ethiopia and Angola. He holds the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba and is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.
