Havana, June 30, 2026. Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, announced on Tuesday that the country has requested the convening of a session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for July 7, under the agenda item “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” with the aim of denouncing the intensification of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington against the island.
During a press conference in Havana, the Foreign Minister stated that Cuba will present to the international community the humanitarian, economic and social consequences of the embargo and will denounce what he described as a multidimensional policy of aggression, including the tightening of economic sanctions, the energy siege and threats of military aggression, which, he said, constitute serious violations of international law and human rights.
Rodríguez Parrilla stressed that the embargo represents a direct threat to the life, well-being and development of the Cuban people, while rejecting claims that Cuba poses a risk to the national security of the United States. “Cuba is not a threat. The embargo is,” he emphasized.
The Minister underscored that the United Nations General Assembly is the most democratic, representative and universal forum to address this issue and expressed confidence that the overwhelming majority of Member States will once again support Cuba’s position in defense of the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of States and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
During his remarks, the Foreign Minister also denounced what he described as a diplomatic and media campaign led by the United States Government to prevent the July 7 session from taking place and to pressure governments and diplomatic missions with the aim of limiting international support for Cuba.
Concluding his statement, Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to multilateralism, peace and international dialogue, expressing confidence that the General Assembly will once again call for the immediate and unconditional end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States.
