Cuba Solidarity Campaign in Britain donates £50,000 to Hurricane Melissa victims

Amidst recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa, the Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba (CSC) in Great Britain has announced an immediate donation of fifty thousand pounds sterling to support relief efforts in our country.

According to the British organisation, the funds come from its "Cuba Vive" campaign and will be used by the Cuban authorities to address humanitarian priorities in the most affected provinces, including vital medical assistance.

The president of the Solidarity Campaign, Kevin Courtney, is currently in Cuba leading a delegation of 20 teachers from the UK's National Education Union.

In a statement, Courtney stressed that, although Cubans are proud of their efficient and well-practised evacuation routines, recovery "will be long and hard, and even more so because of the illegal US blockade".

The British executive praised our people's spirit of solidarity, recalling the Cuban principle that "Solidarity means sharing what you have, not what you have left over."

The Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba reiterated its strong call on the United States government to end its inhumane blockade against the country, a blockade that prevents the Cuban people from accessing the construction materials and equipment needed to recover from this disaster.

Alongside the donation, the CSC has also launched a new emergency fund specifically for Hurricane Melissa, urging its members to continue their support.
