Cuba Solidarity Campaign pays tribute to Africa Day.

Accra, 26 May 2022. – Honouring with their presence, representatives from 15 countries and organisations across the continent participated in the event held at the Cuban Embassy in Ghana to pay special tribute to Africa Day, at the invitation of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign organization. 

 

The event began with a poem about Africa by the award-winning young poet Oswald Okaitei, followed by a speech by Emmanuel Biden Stone, executive member of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign-Ghana, who gave way to Naa Ayele, the Campaign's Coordinator. Naa Ayele conveyed to the audience a strong message of solidarity with all the countries of Africa, offered her organization's support for the just endeavours of the continent and encouraged everyone to work together for a better future.

 

For his part, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament and President of the Friendship Association with Cuba at the legislative referred to the role of the Caribbean island in the struggles of the African continent, expressed his admiration to the Cuban people for their resilience facing of the consequences of the nefarious economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government and their capacity to share what they have with their brothers in Africa. He also encouraged all diplomatic representatives present to uplift the work towards unity for a better Africa, with sustainable development.

 

The Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Anette Chao García, who was invited to speak, thanked everyone for their presence and especially the Solidarity Campaign for enduring the principles of solidarity and unity that Cuba has always upheld.

 

On behalf of the Ambassadors and other diplomats present, the High Commissioner of Zimbabwe, Kufa E. Chinoza, thanked the excellent idea of bringing them together for this event and affirmed the commitment to make Africa's Days better in the near future.

 

In his address to the gathering, the Nigerian Deputy High Commissioner in Ghana, made everyone reflect on the importance of teaching the children of Africa the history of their ancestors. He asserted that it is an obligation to be proud of the cultural roots of their nations.

 

Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, active member of the solidarity with Cuba and Director for External Health Cooperation at the Ministry of Health recalled important passages in the history of relations between Cuba and Africa, making special mention to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz as the architect of many achievements in the continent.

 

The activity was attended by Ambassadors from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Angola, Algeria and Cuba, as well as the Head of Mission of the Saharawi Arab Republic, Deputy Heads of Missions of Nigeria and Kenya and a representative of the High Commissioner of South Africa in Ghana. In addition, the leadership of the All Africa Students' Union (AASU) and the Institute for Peace and Progress, as well as members of the Socialist Movement of Ghana participated.
