Cuba strengthens Caribbean cooperation in the field of Customs

Cuba became the first country in the region to ratify the Convention establishing the Caribbean Customs Organization and on mutual administrative assistance in Customs matters. This step was formalized last Friday at the headquarters of the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council located on the island of Saint Lucia. Albert Sandy, Permanent Secretary of this institution, received the instrument of ratification issued by the Republic of Cuba from the Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas.

In his presentation to the media, Permanent Secretary Albert Sandy acknowledged the deposit of this first instrument of ratification of the "Agreement establishing the Caribbean Customs Organization and mutual administrative assistance in Customs matters. He explained that the Treaty was initially signed by fourteen members at the 41st meeting of the Council in Havana on 22nd May 2019, under the theme: "The road to success, strength through unity". He added that the authorities of the Cuban General Customs had promised that Cuba would be the first to sign the Treaty, and Cuba was also the first to ratify it, for which they are very grateful.

He took the opportunity to congratulate the President, the Government and the people of Cuba for their convictions and for their support for the organization and its work. The Ambassador of Cuba affirmed that with this step Cuba demonstrates, once again, its willingness to continue to strengthen its relations of cooperation with Caribbean states and within the framework of regional institutions.
