Cuba strengthens its relations with Latvia

Riga, Sep 16.- Cuban Ambassador Beatriz Parra presented this Friday the credentials to the President of the Republic of Latvia, Egils Levits, accrediting her as concurrent Head of Mission in Latvia whose authorities wish to cultivate friendly and beneficial relations with the Island. In statements to Prensa Latina, the ambassador based in Helsinki, Finland, commented that the stay in Riga was very positive, in particular her cordial meeting with the dignitary Levits, who was interested in Cuban news. In a conversation after the protocol ceremony, the diplomat explained to the head of state the negative effects generated by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government on the island. Likewise, they discussed bilateral ties, a subject in which both interlocutors agreed that they can be expanded.

Later, the Cuban diplomat was received by the vice-president of the Latvian Parliament, Dagmara Beitnere-Le Galla, who was very interested in establishing greater ties of friendship and cooperation, as well as opening avenues for trade relations and cultural exchanges and in the field of education.

The Cuban Ambassador explained the current events in Cuba around the referendum on the new Family Code on Sunday, September 26, and the meaning that this rule has to consecrate the rights and values ​​of the family in all its diversity. Likewise, he exposed the damages suffered by the Cuban people in their daily lives due to the hostile policy of economic siege carried out by the US administration.

In the short time on her trip to Riga, which she described as very good and fruitful, the Cuban diplomat also held meetings with the Secretary of State of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Andris Pelss, and exchanged with the Latin American and Caribbean leadership of that ministry.

In turn, he had a meeting with Cubans residing in Latvia who expressed their disagreement with the blockade against the island and were interested in learning about the process of updating the economy, in particular the possibility they have of investment and business opportunities. now that micro, small and medium enterprises are promoted.
