Cuba takes part in the 2024 World Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi

The 2024 World Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi are shaping up to be a spectacular event, and Cuba is ready to make its mark. From May 19 to 25, the Mubadala Arena will be the center of attention, bringing together 676 athletes from 109 nations, just 70 days before the Paris Olympic Games. Cuba will send a formidable delegation made up of seven elite judokas, willing to demonstrate their skill and preparation in this high-level competition.

The Cuban team will begin its participation on May 19 with Aleanny Carbonell in the women's category under 52 kg and Jonathan Charon in the men's category under 60 kg. On May 20 it will be Orlando Polanco's turn, competing in the men's category under 66 kg. Maylin Del Toro Carvajal will represent Cuba on May 21 in the women's under 63 kg category, while Iván Silva Morales will be in action on May 22 in the men's under 90 kg category. The last Cuban hopes rest on Idalys Ortiz in the women's category over 78 kg and Andy Santiago Granda Álvarez in the men's category over 100 kg, who will compete on May 23.

Idalys Ortiz, multiple Olympic and world medalist, and Andy Granda, world champion in 2022, stand out as the great medal hopes for Cuba. Iván Silva Morales, world runner-up in 2018, also arrives with high expectations.

This championship will not only be a crucial test to evaluate the preparation of Cuban judokas before the Olympic Games, but also an opportunity to measure strength against the best in the world in their respective categories. With a team full of talent and determination, Cuba hopes to compete with dignity in Abu Dhabi and finalize details for its participation in Paris 2024. Let's go, Cuba!
