Cuba thanks OCHA for its important support in the face of climate-related events and disasters.

Geneva, June 2, 2025. Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the UN in Geneva, held a fraternal meeting with Mr. Ramesh Rajasinghham, Representative of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Director of the Coordination Division, at the organization's headquarters in this Swiss city.

During the exchange, the Cuban representative acknowledged OCHA's valuable support to Cuba in the face of climate-related events and disasters, always counting on the Organization's prompt and efficient response.

The OCHA Representative highlighted the excellent relations of coordination and cooperation with Cuba and the commitment to continue strengthening them. In this context, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the approval of a significant amount of resources within the framework of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to assist the island in dealing with potential disasters during the cyclone phase expected from June to November 2025.

Both sides discussed work priorities for 2025 and agreed to maintain systematic exchanges.

OCHA has offices around the world to coordinate humanitarian responses and direct funding to the people and organizations in need. It has two headquarters (Geneva and New York), which act as global operations centers, and regional offices that drive coordination, humanitarian funding, country-level advocacy, and information management initiatives.
