The Cuba-Turkiye Solidarity Association “José Martí” expresses its solidarity with Cuba and issues a statement condemning the unjust blockade against Cuba and the inclusion of the island in the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. The following is the text of the statement:
THIS IS NOT CUBA'S BLACKOUT, BUT THE DARKNESS OF THE U.S. BLOCKADE.
The Cuban people have been living for five days in an extraordinary situation due to a breakdown in one of the largest power plants in the country:
Power outages, which have led to the suspension of classes in schools, the postponement of cultural events and official meetings, are nothing new for Cuba. Because the U.S. blockade prevents Cuba from accessing the resources necessary for the maintenance and strengthening of its energy infrastructure.
The latest energy crisis has had a much more serious impact on the Cuban people and economy. It has been noted that Cuba's limited food reserves, already affected by the blockade, have been further depleted due to the power cuts.
The blockade seeks to crush the Cuban people through hunger and poverty. It aims at collapsing the basic infrastructures of the country and destabilizing it, while trying to generate the conditions for an external intervention through disinformation campaigns.
It is clear that the darkness that the media shows us does not belong to Cuba, but to the United States. This situation is the result of the U.S. blockade, the longest genocide in history. The resistance of the Cuban people is not against the darkness in which they want to be submerged, but against those who seek to plunge Cuba into that darkness.
Despite these extreme conditions, the Cuban people continue to show wisdom and solidarity, focusing their efforts on mitigating the damage caused by the hurricane that has hit the east of the country. Unfortunately, the flooding caused by the hurricane has resulted in the loss of seven lives. Without respite, the Cuban government, together with the National Defense Council and the Revolutionary Armed Forces, is working with determination both in the rescue efforts and in the solution of the energy problems.
We are certain that Cuba, with unity and solidarity, will also overcome these difficult days. It is up to us to strengthen solidarity with Cuba once again and to launch a campaign that responds to the new needs that have arisen.
The José Martí Friendship Association stresses, once again, the urgency of lifting the economic, financial and trade sanctions imposed on Cuba. The U.S. blockade against Cuba must end immediately, and Cuba must be removed from the list of countries that allegedly support terrorism!
