Oslo, July 18, 2022. Cuba was represented at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad “Oslo 2022” by Thalía Zayas Suárez and Elvis Cabrera Leal, 12th grade students from the Pre-University Vocational Institutes of Exact Sciences “Vladimir Ilich Lenin”, in Havana, and “Martyrs of Humboldt 7”, in Artemisa, respectively. In two intense days of exams, they demonstrated their knowledge on the complex subject, under the supervision of the experienced Cuban professor Prudencio Guerrero Fernández.
To the joy and pride of all Cuba, Elvis Cabrera Leal received an Honorable Mention, thus registering an outstanding performance in an event that was attended by 589 contestants from 104 countries.
The ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, conveyed her congratulations to Elvis for his result and also recognized Thalía because having reached the Olympiad is in itself a great merit. Likewise, she stressed that both raised high the name of Cuba in Norway. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
