Singapore, September 23rd, 2025. The Report of Cuba under resolution 79/7 of the United Nations General Assembly, entitled “Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”, corresponding to the period March 2024 - February 2025, will be presented to the UNGA on October 28 and 29, 2025. The document illustrates the extreme intensification of Washington's hostile policy towards the Caribbean nation and compiles examples, testimonies and data on its considerable impact on the economy, human rights and the quality of life of the Cuban people.
In separate interventions before the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Havana and the national and foreign press, respectively, the Cuban Foreign Minister stressed that no other nation faces such a prolonged, anachronistic, systematic and complex scaffolding of laws and policies of aggression and coercion. He added that added to this is the unprecedented intensification of the blockade in recent years and the deployment of systematic persecution actions in order to cut off the main sources of income for the Cuban economy.
The blockade causes extraordinary humanitarian damage to our people. It is not possible to quantify, it is not possible to express in numbers, in figures, the emotional damage, the anguish, the suffering, the deprivations that the blockade generates in the Cuban family. This is how it has been for several generations, this is how it has been for our people. More than 80% of Cuban men and women were born after the beginning of the blockade. The consequences of this policy are dramatically evident in the shortcomings faced by our population. This reality is undeniable, it is tangible.
Between March 2024 and February 2025, the blockade has caused damages estimated at 7,556.1 million dollars. This means that the damage from the blockade compared to the previous period has grown by 49% as a result of the additional lockdown tightening measures applied in the last 12 months. The impact of the blockade compared to the previous year has increased by 2,499 million dollars more than the enormous damage it caused in the 2023-2024 period.
