Lahore, August 28, 2024 _ Cuba yes, blockade no! was the unanimous demand of several dozen students, intellectuals, trade unionists and social activists of Lahore who attended an exchange session on Cuba with Ambassador Zéner Caro and university professor Dr. Taimur Rahman at the theater of the South Asian Free Media Association of the Pakistani cultural capital.
During the lively meeting, organized by the youth front of the Party of Rights (Haqooq-e-Khalq), those present were interested in learning about the impact of the blockade on the economy and the lives of Cubans, the solidarity of the Cuban revolution and the challenges of the Latin American left in the current international context.
In his remarks, the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission explained the main characteristics of the policy of sanctions against his country, as well as its intensification in recent years and in particular, with the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism of the U.S. State Department.
For his part, Dr. Taimur Rahman underscored the importance of the resistance of the revolution against imperialism and its example for the progressive and leftist movements in the world. In cataloguing the blockade as an injustice against the Cuban people, the renowned intellectual invited those present to shout with him “Cuba yes, blockade no”, in what constituted the most emotional moment of the evening.
