Cuban Ambassador addresses blockade issue during visit to Daily Guide newspaper

The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González was received at the headquarters of the Daily Guide newspaper by the Editor-in-Chief of the News Section, Alhaji Abdulai Rahman Alhassan Gomda.

The Cuban diplomat ratified the historic ties between Ghana and Cuba and explained how Cuba had graduated more than 1,000 Ghanaian citizens as an expression of commitment and solidarity with Africa and with Ghana in particular. He also expressed his appreciation to Commander in Chief Fidel and the first President Dr. Nkrumah, who were the architects of the relationship between Ghana and Cuba. He also mentioned Cuba's effects caused by the economic blockade in all spheres of society exercised by the United States of America; however, it was reaffirmed the commitment of the Cuban people to maintain solidarity with Africa and Ghana in particular.

The Head of the News Section of the Daily Guide thanked the Cuban Ambassador for his visit and emphasized on the cultural ties between Cuba and Ghana. He affirmed that Cuba is a very popular country in Ghana, noting that the relations were cemented since the days of Dr. Nkrumah. He also stated that he was up to date with Cuban issues, for his friendship with the current Ghanaian ambassador to Cuba, Mr. Napoleon Abdulai.

Also participating in the meeting were Ms. Nana Ama A. Osei, administrator of the newspaper, and the First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Julio César Sánchez Martínez.
