Nicosia, Cyprus, April 20, 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in this capital, Rubén Pino Martínez, along with the diplomatic corps accredited here, participated in a meeting with the head of United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who recently arrived in Nicosia for a two-day visit to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Khassim Diagne, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP), who together held discussions with the diplomatic corps accredited in this capital on Monday, April 20.
The meeting took place in the area of the former Nicosia airport, coinciding with the visit of the high-ranking United Nations official to the island. During his visit, he held exchanges with members of the Cuban Armed Forces' peacekeeping forces, the United Nations Police (UNPOL), civil affairs personnel working on peace in the conflict zone, representatives of Cypriot communities and civil society, and the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Nicosia.
During the meeting, Khassim Diagne, along with the head of United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, provided an update on topics of interest to the diplomats present. These topics covered various aspects of the role currently played by UNFICYP's specialized units in Cyprus and their ongoing work to support the search for a peaceful solution and a negotiated agreement on the island, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
