Deputy Minister of Maritime Transport Receives Cuban Ambassador in Cyprus. 

Nicosia, Cyprus, June 15, 2026. - The Deputy Minister of Maritime Transport for the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms Marina Hadjimanolis, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, this Monday during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the aforementioned deputy ministry, located in the port city of Limassol. 

During the meeting, the deputy minister welcomed the Cuban diplomat and warmly thanked him for his visit; he was accompanied by part of his closest team: Dr Theodoulus Mesimeris, acting permanent secretary of the mentioned deputy ministry; Mr Adonis Pavlides, director of the office and senior maritime inspector of the Policy, Coordination, and Strategic Planning Unit; and Ms Despina Pirikki, administrative officer of the deputy ministry. 

With them, Pino Martínez had a fruitful exchange, in which some options and opportunities to develop a bilateral collaboration were outlined, based on the agreement signed and in force between both governments regarding maritime transport. In this regard, the Cuban diplomat elaborated on contacts already established in mid-April between executives of Cuban entities related to the general director of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Mr Alexandros Josephides, and Mr Sofoklis Chrysostomou, maritime manager and member of the board of the mentioned institution, both representing Cypriot shipping companies and others in the Eastern Mediterranean sector.

Nicosia Mayor Welcomes Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus, June 11, 2026. The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, was received this Wednesday, the 10th, at the Nicosia City Hall by its top authority, Mr Charalambos Prountzos.

During the courtesy visit initiated by the Cuban diplomat, both authorities exchanged in a context of cordiality, respect, and friendship, reflecting the historic ties that unite both peoples, with shared intentions to establish new proposals for joint collaboration and continue building cultural bridges between Cyprus and Cuba.

Supported by the intense activity generated by the Nicosia City Hall in the socio-cultural field and with the agreement of the capital’s mayor, the Cuban diplomat expressed his full willingness to collaborate on projects, agreements, or cultural and other exchanges that could be coordinated between the two nations from this important city.

In the fraternal meeting, Ambassador Pino Martínez expressed his sincere gratitude to Metropolitan Isaiah for the support provided during the recent shipment of a fourth container to the Caribbean island, which departed from Cyprus on April 30, containing humanitarian aid intended for the Cuban people.

The meeting was an opportunity for Metropolitan Isaiah to recap the various events organized in previous years for fundraising for the aforementioned purposes; among them, the “Dinner of Love” held at the Episcopate, where attendees learnt about and tasted Antillean cuisine, enjoyed the joy, rhythms, dances, and the best exponents of Cuban music, and, with the funds raised, were able to contribute to that precious humanitarian aid destined for two pediatric hospitals and the Quisicuaba sociocultural project in the capital of all Cubans.

Cuban ambassador participates in the inauguration of sculptural ensembles in honor of two great exponents of Cypriot culture

Nicosia, Cyprus, June 2, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this Tuesday in the inauguration of respective sculptural ensembles in honor of two great exponents of Cypriot music and poetry, Michalakis Giasemidis and Kostas Katsantonis, monuments unveiled in the Park of Poets and Spiritual Creators of Engomi, in this capital. 

According to those present, a national and cultural debt has been fulfilled with both figures, whose works and memories enrich the musical and poetic dialectical legacy that Giasemidis and Katsantonis, respectively, sowed in the Cypriot idiosyncrasy, and which today mark and distinguish the cultural heritage of this Eastern Mediterranean island.

Officially inaugurated by the honorable Mr. Mario Hartsiotis, Commissioner of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, the evening encompassed, with absolute institutional respect and that of the respective families, the enriching imprint of both figures on the national culture.

Cuban Ambassador participates in an awards ceremony for Outstanding Students at the Language Center of the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol

Nicosia, Cyprus, May 27, 2026. The Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this Wednesday in the awards ceremony for the top students of French, Chinese, German, Russian, Greek, and Spanish at the Language Center of the Cyprus University of Technology at its Limassol campus.

The event recognizes the most distinguished academic records in language training at the aforementioned Cypriot institution. Pino Martínez congratulated all the award winners, especially Christina Trasyvouloy, the only outstanding student in Spanish at the third level of study.

The Cuban diplomat expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in this stimulating practice of the institution, which promotes enriching approaches to foreign language learning in conjunction with the various undergraduate programs offered by the centre. Alongside proposing ideas for upcoming courses, the event included interactive initiatives with Spanish language students through talks and exchanges on literature, film, and cultural heritage in Cuba.

This was a timely opportunity to learn about some experiences and practical uses of Artificial Intelligence in language teaching, without underestimating the perspective and role of teachers, whose tools can support lesson planning, materials development, and personalized learning, enriching students' education from a linguistic standpoint as well.

The Mayor of the city of Larnaca receives the Cuban ambassador accredited in Cyprus.

Nicosia, Cyprus, May 19, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, was received this morning by the Mayor of the coastal city of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras, who offered the Caribbean diplomat a warm and cordial welcome at the headquarters of the territorial government of the third largest city on the Mediterranean island, after Nicosia and Limassol.

During the fraternal exchange, the Larnaca governor offered the visitor an overview of the tourist attractions that today identify this city in motion and permanent constructive remodeling, now the capital city of the eponymous district that hosts the country's second port and most important airport.

For his part, Pino Martínez thanked the host official for the opportunity to participate last Sunday in the inauguration of the 2026 Special Olympics of Cyprus, in that coastal city; at the same time, he was able to anticipate new proposals for bilateral events that will help enrich the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2023 between that Cypriot municipality and the Provincial Government of Santiago de Cuba, in the field of cultural and economic cooperation.

Cuban Ambassador Participates in Opening Ceremony of the Cyprus Special Olympics in Larnaca

Larnaca, Cyprus, May 17, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended the opening ceremony of the Cyprus Special Olympics 2026 this Sunday in the coastal city of Larnaca.

Accompanied by the Cypriot National Guard Military Band, the opening ceremony of the Cyprus National Special Games began with a parade and formation of the athletes who will compete from May 17 to 27 in various sports disciplines, coming from all over the island. The ceremony—as is traditional—was blessed by Father Mario Lemoní, representing the metropolitan of Kitio.

The official opening declaration was delivered by Andreas Vyras, Mayor of Larnaca, along with greetings from Maria Vasileiádou, President of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics, and Dr Klea Jatzistefánou Papáellina, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, representing the President of the Republic of Cyprus.

Cuban ambassador participates in the 37th General Assembly of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber 2026

Nicosia, Cyprus, May 13, 2026. – The Ambassador of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this Wednesday in the 37th Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), the most important event of the Cypriot maritime sector, held in Limassol, with the presence of the Board of Directors of the Chamber and businesspeople from the sector across the country.

The inauguration of the event was led by Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, and Annita Demetriou, President of the Cypriot Parliament, whose speeches highlighted the strategic and essential role that Cypriot shipping companies currently play and their impact on the country's economy, in addition to the efforts of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber in its commitment to actively support international efforts aimed at maintaining its excellence and prestige in the region and in achieving sustainable and realistic solutions for the future of global maritime transport.

Both authorities also expressed the local government's intention to continue maintaining Cyprus as an essential maritime reference point in the Eastern Mediterranean, in line with its timely geographical location in that area.
