Cuban ambassador and the leader of the ruling party in Ghana hold meeting

The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, received Mr. Freddie Blay, acting National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana.

The Cuban Ambassador highlighted the state of historical relations between Cuba and Ghana, as well as his commitment to continue working on its strengthening. He also thanked the party leader for the attention given to the Vice President of the Council of State, H.E Mercedes López Acea, during her recent visit to Ghana.

Mr. Blay also expressed in positive terms the state of bilateral relations, noting that as a result, in 2019, a group of new physicians will arrive in Ghana, very disciplined and with excellent preparation, after concluding their studies in Cuba. He expressed his interest in increasing the number of Ghanaian students in the Greater Antilles, emphasizing that they could also be trained as engineers and professionals of the so-called Basic Sciences.

Both parties highlighted the work carried out in Ghana by the Cuban Medical Brigade. It was emphasized that its members are working mostly in regions of the country, with public hospitals devoid of qualified doctors.

The leader of the NPP, who has been invited to visit Cuba, stressed that his party is immersed in its internal election process, which will end in June with the election of its National Directorate. He pointed out that once the schedule is finalized, he will be able to honor that invitation.

Mr. Freddie Blay was accompanied by Mr. Yaw Preko, NPP´s Deputy Director of Communications and Ms. Adeda Safo, her personal assistant.
