Colombo, August 23, 2024. At Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, H.E. Ali Sabry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Cuban ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, who delivered him a congratulatory letter from his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In the letter, the Cuban foreign minister reiterated his unwavering willingness to continue working to strengthen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka and Cuba established diplomatic relations on July 29, 1959, a few months after the triumph of the Cuban revolution, and that same year Commander Ernesto Che Guevara paid a visit to this country, called Ceylon at that time. Over the past 65 years, the governments and peoples of both countries have maintained numerous political and cooperation exchanges, which have further strengthened the ties of friendship and solidarity.
