Cuban Ambassador attends 12th Congress of the TUC

Gomoa Fetteh, August 20, 2024. - The Ghana Trade Union Congress (TUC) opened its Quadrennial Delegate Congress bringing together representatives of its various organisations for the twelfth time.

Under the theme “Sustaining and Leveraging the Power of Trade Unions in a Challenging Economic Environment.”, the opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the Secretary General of the TUC, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, representatives of trade unions from various countries around the world and several members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Ghana.

After the keynote address by the Secretary General of the TUC and the opening address by the President of the Republic, several messages of solidarity were delivered, including that of the Cuban representative, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Ghana, Anette Chao García, who thanked the government and the people of Ghana, especially the TUC for their support in the struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the island by the United States. She also recognised the importance of the presence of friends of Cuba in the efforts to remove the largest of the Antilles from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, which is drawn up every year by the US State Department and constitutes a way of reinforcing the blockade. She called on those present to maintain their support to Cuba and evoked the good results of the last visit of 40 Ghanaian trade unionists to the island, as part of the May Day Brigade.

This was a timely moment to call for the end of the occupation of the Palestinian territories and the termination of the war, for which the Ambassador of Palestine to Ghana expressed his gratitude.
