Cuban Ambassador Attends Reception at Government House Marking the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations Charter

Wellington, 31 October 2025 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, took part alongside members of the Diplomatic Corps in a reception hosted by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter.

The event, held at Government House Wellington, was organized by the United Nations Association of New Zealand (UNANZ) and brought together members of the diplomatic community, representatives of civil society, and young people involved with the United Nations system in New Zealand.

Guests enjoyed an outstanding performance by the Hiwa Crew, as well as insightful presentations by UN Youth representatives, who shared reflections on the challenges and hopes for multilateralism in today’s world.

In her remarks, Dame Cindy Kiro expressed her confidence in the future, highlighting the energy and optimism of younger generations and emphasizing that “our society’s wellbeing, and the wellbeing of our planet, are contingent on the wellbeing of us all.”

Ambassador Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez’s participation in this commemoration reaffirms Cuba’s commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, to multilateralism, and to international cooperation in pursuit of peace and sustainable development.
