LAS BAHAMAS, 12 May 2017. In the evening of 11 May, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Marguerite Pindling, conducted the swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Honorable Dr. Hubert Minnis. Accompanied by government officials, members of Parliament, representatives of the Free National Movement (FNM) and constituents, the Prime Minister thanked the Bahamian people and their party for reposing their trust in him.

The Cuban ambassador to the Bahamas, Ismara M. Vargas Walter, attended the event, which was also attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as international observers who followed the electoral process. On this occasion, the ambassador congratulated the new Prime Minister on his election. The FNM obtained the majority of the Parliament seats in the elections held on 10 May 2017.

Cuba and The Bahamas have maintained diplomatic relations since 30 November 1974.
