Cuban Ambassador attends tribute to Ghanaian internationalist fighter Captain (ret) Kojo Tsikata

The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González attended the tribute organized in Accra, by the Embassy of the Republic of Angola to Captain (r) Kojo Tsikata, and to whom the Angolan Ambassador, Mr. Augusto da Silva Cunha, decorated for his contribution to the liberating national struggle in that Southern African country.

The Captain (ret) Kojo Tsikata, in response to the award received, paid tribute to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He explained that his link with the armed struggle in Angola was a direct result of the orientations of the First President, who considered that the independence of Ghana would only be possible when all Africa was liberated from colonialism.

The Ghanaian hero, known to Angolan fighters as Carlos Silva, highlighted the ties he established with the Cuban combatants who served as advisers to the MPLA.

The Ambassador of Cuba made reference to the relations with Cuba of Captain Tsikata, holder of the Solidarity Award, and of the Order of "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" conferred by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, and emphasized on the importance of knowing the life and the legacy of internationalist fighters of that category.

The Act also included the Ambassadors of South Africa and Namibia, Mrs. Lulama Xingwana, and Mr. Charles Bernardt Josob, respectively, and who in their interventions highlighted the importance for political education of new generations of knowing the struggle against colonialism. Both emphasized the fact that anti-colonial and anti-racist struggle was a common battle in which trenchers fighters from Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Cuba and others like Ghana shared.

The Act was covered by a team of journalists representing the Daily Graphic, Daily Guide and The Insight newspapers.
