The Cuban ambassador to the Bahamas Alejandro García del Toro visits the Minister of National Security

Nassau, March 5th, 2020. The Minister of National Security of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Honorable Marvin Dames and the Cuban Ambassador Alejandro García del Toro held a fruitful exchange at the headquarters of that institution. Both discussed the different areas related to national security of the two countries, in which there are spaces to maintain or diversify the cooperation

The combat of drug trafficking, illegal fishing, human trafficking and illegal emigration are common challenges for Cuban and Bahamian security institutions, with thousands of square kilometers under their attention and with a shared maritime border that implies permanent efforts in order to guarantee the security of their respective states. Minister Marvin Dames highlighted the value of collaborative actions carried out in the past as a canine training course, which allowed a group of Bahamian officers to receive training in this field, which has a high operational value in issues such as drug trafficking and confrontation with crime.

Eugene Portier, permanent secretary of the Ministry of National Security participated in the meeting. The ambassador, the first secretary Yusimí Pompa Santos, accompanied the Cuban embassy.
