Nassau, December 9th, 2019. The Cuban ambassador Alejandro García del Toro visited the Honorable Hubert Minnis, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. The premier highlighted the historical links between the two archipelagos that have allowed the development of collaborative actions in many areas.
Dr. Hubert Minnis particularly thanked the sending by the Cuban authorities of humanitarian aid after the passage of Hurricane Dorian. In other moment, Minnis mentioned different fields which could be expanded such as climate change, migration issues, cultural exchanges and disaster preparedness. In this last topic, he recognized the Cuban experience to protect the life of the population and in general the comprehensive action in the event of extreme weather situations.
The Cuban ambassador Alejandro García expressed that Cuba is willing to uphold and expand the bilateral ties, which have been very useful in areas such as education and health. He mentioned that the common challenges in terms of climate change and sustainable development open up opportunities for this expansion. He also thanked the Prime Minister for the continued support of The Bahamas in our struggle to remove the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.
Several officials and advisers from the Office of the Prime Minister attended the meeting. The ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary Yusimí Pompa.
