Nicosia, Cyprus, December 30, 2025. The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this tuesday in the event organized by the United Democratic Youth (EDON) of Cyprus to say goodbye to the year that is coming to an end.
With young people from various districts of Paphos, Limassol, Famagusta, Larnaca, and Nicosia, the Cuban diplomat was able to share a lively and fraternal year-end gathering with members of the organization's leadership, including Seviros Koulas and Foteini Charalampous, Secretary General and Head of International Relations of the organization, respectively, along with a strong representation of the future and undisputed successor of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL).
An exchange that made it possible to agree on and strengthen cooperation between both parties through the coordination of future joint activities, as well as to reaffirm the support of EDOM youth groups in the assembly and shipment of an upcoming container with medical and food aid for Cuba, as a demonstration of the enduring solidarity between both peoples.
In this context, there was also the message of encouragement, commitment, and continuity from Stefanos Stefanou, General Secretary of AKEL, to the new generations of the host political organization, along with a warm message of congratulations, well-wishes, and happiness for these young people and their families, and for the entire Cypriot people, on the occasion of the upcoming year.
During the day, the Cuban Ambassador was able to appreciate how present the Cuban Revolution is for this youth community, many of whom have already visited the island, are familiar with its daily life, and also condemn the difficult situation of financial, economic, and commercial siege that Cubans face today due to the prolonged U.S. blockade policy against Cuba, which has now lasted more than six decades.
Topics of significant priority for bilateral relations between both parties were also discussed, where the representative of the largest of the Antilles reiterated the willingness to continue supporting the Cypriot youth of EDON, as a source of inspiration for the noble causes of the progressive movement on an international scale.
